Thankfully, reinstalling Steam the way I did was rather painless, but going through and trying everything else to fix it was not. Hopefully some of this information might help to provide a way for a fix that prevents this type of problem from happening again. I am guessing that what fixed it was reinstalling steam, but I wanted to provide all these details just in case. I think my base stations were stuck in standby mode since I had that enabled previously, so then I unplugged and replugged them back in.Īfter this I decided to go straight into room setup, which I ended up using room scale VR setup for the first time. I did this by deleting all of the files in my Steam directory besides Steam.exe and my steamapps folder so I wouldn't have to redownload my games. Without any of that working, I decided I needed to find a way to reinstall Steam without having to download all my games again.
#STEAM VR DESKTOP VIEW UPGRADE#
I needed to upgrade anyway since it was a GTX 970 that meets minimum specs for the Index. I actually upgraded my video card right before they suggested it, but that didn't work either.
#STEAM VR DESKTOP VIEW DRIVER#
I also used a Display Driver removal tool and even upgraded my video card. I removed all kinds of programs that they said may be conflicting and did virus scans while rebooting after trying to change almost anything. I did everything Steam support suggested, but none of that fixed the problem. I really found this problem frustrating and it is now fixed. I am using Windows 10 and my Valve Index is connected to a GTX 970.
#STEAM VR DESKTOP VIEW HOW TO#
I have my system report and screenshots in the ticket I opened, but not sure how to share them here. I have to restart Steam VR to get my controllers back and be able to do anything. If I click the button to display the keyboard, the entire dashboard controls UI vanished as well as my controllers. When I click on it, I see nothing above the dashboard controls. I have opened a Steam support ticket, but I am hoping maybe someone here can help more quickly.Ĭurrently, when I go into the VR dashboard, I still see the desktop button. Today I have tried everything I can think of, and the desktop view works for zero monitors no matter what. This actually gave me the ability to see the desktop view again! I thought it fixed it, but I did not have the usual button to switch between desktops and that was the last time the desktop view worked. The initial monitor was plugged in via DVI and I so I plugged in my TV through HDMI. There are a ton of 360-degree desktop environments you can. I also added some Beat Saber mods, but I don't see how that could affect it since the mods are only going into the Beat Saber directory.Īfter playing for awhile, I decided to try plugging in a second monitor. See at Steam See at Oculus See at Microsoft Virtual Desktop Virtual Desktop (about 15) essentially lets you live inside your PC. I'm not sure how that could have caused this, but I figured I'd mention it. Prior to launching Steam VR I updated my Adobe Creative Cloud and it looks like Mozzila Firefox updated itself as well. I am unable to find what could have happened to caused this.
